Dahlia comparison peachy/watermelon

Some dahlias can look similar to one another until you see them side by side. To help show the different sizes and tones I have made some colour comparison flat lays. Starting off with some of my favourites tones the always adored peachy/watermelon dahlias.

Avoca Amanda is a medium decorative in the most delightful peachy pink with good exhibition form and strong stems for cut flowers. Tall growing plants will reach a height of between 1.5 m and 1.8 m so plants should be kept well supported.

Carlos watermelon is a medium informal decorative, that produces watermelon blooms that lighten as the season progresses, when they eventually become more peachy. It is incredibly popular with florists and has long strong stems for cutting. Will need support as plants can be tall and flower heads can get heavy.

Smokey downs is an absolute stunner in my eyes, the dusty watermelon blooms grow on long strong stems, this is a tall plant, taller than me in fact, so give the plant support. An incredibly productive cultivar, that I wouldn't be without as a cut flower grower.

Hillier Tanunda is my absolute favourite, yes that’s right, she is the best in my eyes. She pumps out huge quantities of blooms on the longest stems and is the perfect pinky peach colour. If I could only grow one dahlia this would be it.

Devon Vogue is the perfect peach ball, absolutely dreamy, the stems do need to be cut deep to be used as a cut flower, however she still produces huge amounts of the most wonderful peach blooms.

Winkie robot is in a colour all of its own a reddy/watermelon bloom these perfect balls are so fun and a real stand out cut flower.

Dainty Sue is a totally underrated bloom in my eyes, the amount of stems she puts out is incredible, just bloom after bloom. A muted watermelon with a purple centre and a hint of yellow around the inner petals, very useful in bunches.

Belle you beautiful thing you, a peachy center with a medium pink on edge of petals. A prolific bloomer and can get extremely tall so give support.

Sport of Isabel, two seasons ago I was lucky enough to get a watermelon sport from my Isabel dahlias. This perfect ball is just as amazing as the true Isabel, but in an incredible new watermelon colour. Can't fault this variety, and I hope to produce many many more of this one over the next few seasons.

Pink Suffusion is the candy pink of my dreams, a sweet bloom that was loved by florists and customers alike.

Not Glenmarc Sophie is one I am still investigating the true name of, the original breeder of Glenmarc Sophie has been sent tubers by me, so hopefully we will have a correct name soon. This Not Glenmarc Sophie is the better version of Breannon in my eyes, holds her centres right until the end of the season and a wonderful nude peach colour.

There are many more delicious peach and salmon toned dahlias grown at my farm that I will include in another flat lay soon, Sam.
