Dahlias from seedlings are unpredictable and can vary greatly from the parent plant. This potted seedling is grown from seed that is open pollinated from my dahlia farm where I grow every colour dahlia, meaning you never know what you could get. You can create your own brand new variety. The plants are started from seeds that have been saved from a mix of giant dinner plate varieties, balls, cacti, stellar and stunning decoratives in all sizes, they are all cut flower varieties. Growing seedlings is how you produce new dahlia varieties, they will not be the same as the parent plant, however they could inherit some qualities of the parent plant. I have included just a few photos of some seedlings I have grown. These plants will produce tubers and flower in the first year which will be an entire new variety. New varieties are usually grown for 3 seasons to test stability and quality of the blooms, before they are named and then released. Each dahlia seedling has been grown from my own dahlia seeds which I have saved seeds of, dried seeds, sorted seeds, germinated and potted up to share with you.
